Safety improvements completed on I-25 at Exit 14

Las Animas County — The Colorado Department of Transportation with its contract partner, Concrete Works of Colorado, has completed safety improvements at the Interstate 25 southbound off-ramp at Exit 14 in Trinidad. Work began this past spring and was completed ahead of schedule in late September.

The I-25 Exit 14 Improvement Project realigned the southbound off-ramp into a straighter configuration and replaced the existing asphalt with concrete pavement. The new alignment improves visibility by allowing drivers to see farther ahead as they travel along the ramp. The previous configuration included a sharp curve that limited sight distance and created less predictable driving conditions.

“This realignment, in combination with a new concrete road surface, will provide a smoother road surface and route when exiting I-25, enhancing the safety of the traveling public,” said CDOT Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson.

The straighter alignment and new concrete pavement also support more consistent travel speeds and reduce the need for sudden braking and acceleration. These improvements help minimize stop-and-go traffic while providing a safer, smoother and more comfortable driving experience for motorists exiting I-25.

Over the past five years, CDOT has invested significantly in Las Animas County infrastructure, completing key safety and traffic flow enhancements at the I-25/Exit 11 interchange south of Trinidad, as well as extensive resurfacing along I-25 from the New Mexico state line north through downtown Trinidad to Ludlow. Most recently, CDOT completed the addition of passing lanes on CO 12 near Weston.
