New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office Issues Election Advisory in Light of Recent Extreme Weather Events

Santa Fe – The New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office recognizes that recent extreme weather events have raised concerns about the ability of every eligible voter in impacted communities to participate in this year’s general election.

As of today, weather events have resulted in temporary closures of an early voting location, but all early voting locations have resumed regular operations. There have been no reported related disruptions to the delivery of mailed ballots.

Should severe weather impact New Mexico again during this election, New Mexicans are reminded that:

  • The Secretary of State’s Office and County Clerks work diligently on emergency preparedness in advance of every statewide election and are legally required to work together to ensure continuity of the voting process. Always check with your County Clerk for the most up-to-date information if you have questions.
  • Registered voters may vote at any polling location in their county. Contact your County Clerk or visit NMVote.org for polling location information, including hours of operation.
  • If you are registered to vote and lose your physical identification documents, you can still provide your required identification details verbally and vote in-person.
  • If you have not received your mail-in ballot, you can still vote in-person at a polling location if you sign a form saying you will not vote by mail.
  • After today, any voter intending to vote by mail is encouraged not to mail their completed ballot and instead return it in-person to their County Clerk’s Office, a polling location, or an official election drop box to ensure timely delivery. Mail-in ballots must be received by your County Clerk by 7:00 pm on Election Day, November 3.

New Mexicans can also find trusted election information at

sos.nm.gov/goodquestions,

sos.nm.gov/rumor, and

NMVote.org.

Early voting continues this week and ends this Saturday, October 31. Polling locations will also be open on Election Day, November 3, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
